Kentucky Equine Research

KER was founded in 1988 when Joe Pagan, Ph.D. realized that information generated from research was not disseminated to the individuals who needed it most: feed manufacturers and horse owners. Since the company began, filling that void has been a priority for KER.

The company accomplishes this in several ways. First and foremost, it serves as a consultant to feed manufacturers worldwide. KER nutritionists work with mill owners and managers to formulate top-quality feeds that complement typical forages found in the locale.

KER maintains its own research facility in central Kentucky. Digestibility and exercise physiology trials occur year-round at the farm. The facility is outfitted with a high-speed treadmill, a six-horse free walker, and all of the equipment necessary for detailed investigation of nutrient metabolism at rest and during exercise. Information is then published in scientific journals and popular magazines.

Through its consultation and research efforts, KER remains the leading authority on equine nutrition and exercise physiology.
